Hello
Hi I am Krystal a busy mom of two boys who spent the last 7 years studying nutrition and getting real time experience with my own children's challenging and picky eating. I felt defeated when everything I tried didn’t work and because all my focus went to them, I forgot to take care of myself and became too fatigued to even try any more. I finally learned to put my health first and focused on implementing one small habit at a time. Once my health was under control, I let go of some of my control with my children's nutrition and focused on one small habit at a time with them as well. It's not about perfection it's about balance and it also doesn't mean you need to spend hours in the kitchen. It's also not about making multiple meals and having meal time battles. There are things we can control as parents and things we can't. Learn to improve your health and your family's health one small habit at a time.
I remember being so excited when I graduated from my nutrition schooling. Things were going to be so much different now. I couldn't wait to make my 3 year-old new healthy recipes and get him eating better. At the time he wasn't really eating any meat because I didn't force it, he also was addicted to cheddar bunnies and gold fish. I had just had my second son and couldn't wait to try again and get him to eat perfect as I gave myself guilt about how my oldest ate. I remember being so upset with myself because my oldest only wanted to eat crunchy foods. Somehow this was my fault.
When it was time for my youngest to start eating, he decided he didn't want to eat at all. I tried and tried for months but he wasn't interested until about 18 months. I did all the right things. I gave him eggs, salmon, veggies and stews. Then at about age 3 he just stopped eating vegetables. Meal time was unbearable, I would force and get upset. I found myself making multiple meals. All while this was going on I hadn't given myself credit for the changes we made with my oldest son who was now eating meat and we completely got rid of cheddar bunnies and gold fish, mostly because he would act crazy until he got them.
I realized changes happen but it takes time. Start with you. Every child is different so no matter how much nutrition info you have we need to work together to try things in a way that works specifically for you and your children. When it comes to family nutrition, I work with getting both parents working together. We develop meal time, and snack guidelines and boundaries first. Then we start implementing small healthy habits. Investing in your children's nutrition can be fun when you let go a little and see it as an opportunity to teach them one of the most important skills in life.
My approach is simple, start with your health first then you are in a better place to improve your family's health. Also don't try to change too many things at once, you will get overwhelmed. Eating nutritious food is just one piece of the puzzle. Before we can focus on food, we need to work on creating awareness around self-sabotaging thoughts, beliefs, and habits. Then we can start to implement one small change and habit at a time. In the beginning when I worked with clients, I would write them the plan and off they would go and time and time again they wouldn't stay consistent and that is because we didn't discuss engrained habits and beliefs, and we also didn't talk about triggers and ways to overcome them. This is a key factor in staying on track.

Although I am a nutritionist I am also human and eat too much on vacation or order dessert, and have a glass or two of wine. There is no judgement when working with me. The goal is not to be on a restricted diet for the rest of your life its to create balance and balance for your family. Eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle does require some investment however it doesn't mean you need to be in the kitchen cooking an hour every night. When working together we will discuss your schedule, and come up with a specific plan for you that works.
